Mr. Brown has been lead counsel and co-lead counsel on numerous multimillion dollar verdicts and settlements in cases involving products liability, automobile and trucking accidents, medical negligence, industrial accidents, admiralty and maritime law injuries and deaths, environmental pollution and fraud.
Mr. Brown was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from the University of South Alabama School of Business cum laude, receiving numerous undergraduate honors. He then received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama.
Mr. Brown is active in the community having served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Mobile Metropolitan YMCA and as Chairman of the Administrative Board, the Board of Trustees, and Stewardship for Spanish Fort United Methodist Church. In addition, he enjoys coaching youth sports (basketball, softball and baseball) in Spanish Fort and Daphne.
He is married to the former Shannon Godwin of Mobile. Toby, Shannon and their two daughters, Erin and Katie, reside in Daphne, Alabama.

Mr. Brown is a Fellow in the International Society of Barristers and has been inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is also Board Certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Mr. Brown is Immediate Past President of the Alabama Association for Justice, formerly known as the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association. He is a Charter Member of the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation's "Pioneers for Justice." He is also past President of the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation and now serves on its Executive Committee. Mr. Brown is listed as one of the leading attorneys in the state in the 2010 Alabama Super Lawyers magazine, and is also listed as one of the Best Lawyers in America®.
He is admitted to practice in all Alabama State Courts, the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Alabama, the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit and in the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Brown is a member of the Mobile County Bar Association, Alabama State Bar, Southern Alabama Trial Lawyers Association (Member, Executive Committee) and American Association of Justice.
