Carmen earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she served as the Senior Development Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. Combining her rigorous academic drive with a strong passion for advocacy, she spent her final year in law school working full-time as a student attorney in the Georgetown Law Juvenile Justice Clinic, representing youth in the DMV area charged with delinquency. Her outstanding service to the Georgetown Law community earned her the Dean’s Certificate, along with a Certificate of Distinction for her advocacy specifically on behalf of the LGBTQ community.

After nearly a decade of practice at a corporate defense firm - where she was elected Shareholder - Carmen decided to move home to Mobile to join Cunningham Bounds in 2025. She brings her extensive experience of corporate defense litigation to her heartfelt commitment to representing injured Alabamians on the plaintiffs’ side.

Beyond her legal practice, Carmen serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Alabama affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, a non-partisan organization dedicated to safeguarding liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

Carmen earned her B.A. in Psychology from Yale University, where she pursued her passion for community organizing, performance poetry, and competitive Latin ballroom dance.

Away from the office, Carmen and her husband take great delight in raising their daughter, to whom Carmen speaks exclusively in French. Carmen also enjoys reading, oil painting, poetry, and etymology.
