Cunningham is no stranger to awards for himself, or for his clients. He has tried and won various types of cases over the last 35 years, with the awards totaling over $15.5 billion dollars. His practice has included complex litigation, environmental torts, class actions, personal injury, products liability, insurance fraud, bad faith, medical negligence, intellectual property, and admiralty and maritime law. Most recently, Cunningham tried an intellectual property case along with another firm partner in October of 2008. Prior to his legal career, Cunningham served his country in the United States Marine Corps as both an enlisted man and officer. He received numerous decorations for his service which include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart, 29 Air Medals and the Combat Action Ribbon. He then went on to graduate with honors from the University of South Alabama in 1973. Next Cunningham received his Juris Doctorate with honors from the University of Florida in 1975 and was admitted to the Alabama Bar that same year.
