Cunningham Bounds Welcomes Attorney Carmen Chambers to the Firm

Cunningham Bounds is pleased to announce that attorney Carmen Chambers has joined the firm. A highly accomplished litigator with nearly a decade of defense experience, Carmen brings a distinguished academic background, proven courtroom skill, and a deep commitment to client advocacy to her new role representing injured individuals and families across Alabama.

Carmen joins Cunningham Bounds after serving at a prominent corporate defense firm, where she rose to the position of Shareholder. Her breadth of experience in complex litigation allows her to bring a strategic, informed perspective to plaintiff-side trial work, strengthening the firm’s ability to confront sophisticated defendants and secure justice for those harmed by wrongdoing.

“Carmen’s experience, intellect, and passion for advocacy make her an extraordinary addition to our team,” said Steve Nicholas of Cunningham Bounds. “Her background in high-stakes defense litigation uniquely positions her to anticipate defense strategies and deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.”

Carmen earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she served as Senior Development Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. Driven by a strong commitment to justice, she spent her final year working full-time as a student attorney in the Georgetown Law Juvenile Justice Clinic, representing youth in the Washington metropolitan area charged with delinquency. Her outstanding service to the Georgetown Law community earned her both the Dean’s Certificate and a Certificate of Distinction for her advocacy on behalf of the LGBTQ community.

She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Yale University, where she also pursued her passion for community organizing, performance poetry, and competitive Latin ballroom dance. A Mobile native, Carmen, returned home in 2025 to continue her career in plaintiff-side litigation. In addition to her legal practice, she serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Alabama affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, supporting statewide efforts to protect and defend civil liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

Outside the courtroom, Carmen enjoys reading, oil painting, poetry, etymology, and spending time with her husband and daughter, with whom she shares her love of languages—speaking to her daughter exclusively in French.

Cunningham Bounds, with offices in Mobile, Alabama, and Atlanta, Georgia, has represented plaintiffs for more than 65 years. The firm is nationally recognized for its work on behalf of individuals and families in cases involving catastrophic personal injury, industrial accidents, defective products, automobile and truck accidents, and medical malpractice.
