Target Recalls Furniture Due to Risk of Injury

|

Target has issued a recall of Room Essentials 4-drawer dressers after receiving reports of the product falling over or collapsing. The product is sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and online at target.com. If not anchored to a wall, the recalled dressers are unstable and pose serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children.

From January 2013 through April 2016, approximately 175,000 of these dressers were sold in the United States, with another 3,000 sold in Canada. The following model numbers were printed on the product's packaging and are included in the recall:

  • 249-05-0103 (black)
  • 249-05-0106 (espresso)
  • 249-05-0109 (maple)

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends that consumers immediately stop using the recalled dresser if it is not properly anchored to a wall and place it in an area that children cannot access. The CPSC also advises consumers to return the recalled dressers to any Target store for a full refund.
